2024 Progress Update
With the help of our supporters in the Perkins County community and beyond, 2023 was a year of tremendous progress in the effort to restore nursing home care to our community. Here are some of the important steps we've taken:
• Obtained our own 501(c)3 tax exempt status as an independent nonprofit organization.
• Received USDA approval of our market study and architectural plan for a 40-bed skilled nursing home facility.
• Submitted our feasibility study and Phase I and II Environmental studies to the USDA, with funds pending upon approval.
• Partnered with Perkins County Schools to start a CNA program at the high school. Our hope is to recruit "home-grown" employees at our future facility.
• Welcomed two additional members to the Western Sky board: Diane Hagan and Dan Hughes.
• Continued fundraising with unwavering support. Successful events have included a Pie Social, Fiesta Mexicana Dinner, Quilt Raffle and Music Concert.
• Completed fundraising that has now reached $1.8 million.
We are humbled and excited to have come so far. Our greatest desire and the focus of our time and effort is to have a facility that our community can be proud of, one that provides the highest quality of care to our seniors. The potential benefits to our residents, their families, and our community are at the forefront of our thinking and planning in this pursuit.
