UPDATE: USDA Obligates Funds for WSCCC

The USDA has obligated $13.9 million for construction of Western Sky Community Care Center in Grant. The terms are favorable at 3.5% for 40 years. Because the USDA considers Western Sky a "startup," they are requiring additional cash-on-hand reserves to ensure our operational success.

We need a total of $3.1 million in order to begin construction. We have $2.2 million now. (This number reflects our expenses over the past two years. We also have pledges of $170,000 that cannot be counted as cash-on-hand funds.)

Cash reserve funds belong to Western Sky and will be invested in order to maximize our resources. With these funds in place, the USDA is confident that our "startup" will succeed. The Nebraska Dept. of Health and Human Services approved a two-year extension on our nursing bed licenses, until June 2026. We appreciate their vote of confidence as well.

The people who support Perkins County, near and far, have come together to drive this project forward and make a bold statement: We want to invest in our community. We want it to thrive. We want people to stay here. We want to show other communities that this is possible.

The community's confidence in the success of this "startup" has made everything possible. The pieces are now in place. We need your help to bring this project home so we can begin construction. Please donate by mailing a check to Western Sky CCC at P.O. Box 966, Grant, NE 69140. Or take your donation to Pinnacle Bank in Grant. Our nursing home will feature a donor wall to recognize those whose support helped restore nursing home care to our community.

We invite you to attend our town hall meeting on July 25, 2024, at 6 p.m. at the Perkins County Fairgrounds. Consultant Tim Groshans from Burwell and USDA representative Sara Pierce will be there to offer information and answer questions.
